Position: Operations & Maintenance Trainee, Preventive Maintenance DepartmentApplication Period: September 20, 2024 - October 4, 2024
Location: Five Points Shop & Field Office, approximately 45 minutes southwest of Fresno, CA
Annual Salary Range: $53,700 - $65,292

Position Summary:The Operations & Maintenance Trainee is an entry-level position that offers training and experience in a variety of duties within the Preventive Maintenance Department. Responsibilities include performing preventive maintenance, lubrication, and repair work on pumps, valves, and other equipment, as well as general maintenance and weed control measures.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- One year of experience in industrial repair, scheduling, storekeeping, general maintenance, mechanical maintenance, or construction.
- Valid California Class C Driver’s License. Depending on assignment, a Class A or B Driver’s License with air brake endorsement may be required.
- Ability to lift 100 pounds, climb stationary ladders, and work in confined spaces.
- Ability to utilize a respirator during job duties or under emergency circumstances.

About Westlands Water District:
Westlands receives water from the Central Valley Project, which is operated by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. The District’s water distribution system is comprised entirely of buried pipeline (approximately 1,100 miles of pipe) and is outfitted with over 3,000 water meters.Westlands continually invests in this sophisticated system, which measures every drop of water and minimizes losses caused by seepage and evaporation. These water services include the sustainable management and delivery of water supply, as well as the provision of ongoing education, advanced technology and innovative methods for environmental conservation.Westlands’ dedication to the communities and farms dependent on water deliveries and commitment to the preservation of its federal contract has led to the acquisition of additional water necessary to meet these needs.To support this mission, Westlands has adopted the following goals:Preserve and restore the federal contract water supply.Obtain supplemental water supplies through short and long-term purchases and transfers.Develop a process to examine the various options available for the purposes of supply enhancement and drainage mitigation.Support timely construction of cost-effective facilities to enhance the quality and reliability of water supplies.Conduct the maintenance, operational and administrative functions of Westlands in an efficient and effective manner.Implement and maintain an effective Water Conservation program by providing growers with accurate and current information and technical assistance to aid with water management planning.
