Job Summary:
The Lead Central Sterile Technician (CST) must be able to perform all the duties of a CST I and II and meet or exceed Heywood Healthcare /Perioperative Services and industry standards as set forth by the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM).The Lead CST is responsible for collaborating with Supervisors, Heywood department leaders and Perioperative Services Practice Leaders (charge nurses). The Lead CST collects, inventories and orders supplies for the central sterile department.
Lead CST may delegate and prioritize assignments for CST I and II based on operational needs. Lead CST maintains and oversees quality and adherence to standards in the central sterile department. The Lead CST may be required to take on a supervisory role when the department Manager is off site or unavailable.
Responsibilities:
Essential Functions- Provides positive leadership.
- Applies and enforces regulations, standards, and hospital policy and procedures pertaining to all areas of sterile processing.
- Maintains knowledge of operation of all equipment in sterile processing and reports malfunctions to appropriate personnel immediately.
- The Lead CST collects, inventories and orders supplies for the central sterile department.
- Maintains and oversees quality and adherence to standards in the central sterile department
- May be required to take on a supervisory role when the department Manager is off site or unavailable.
- Help to maintain scheduling when manager isn’t present.
- Attend meetings via zoom/ in person when manager isn’t present.
- Assist management, as assigned in reporting quality assurance reports for the CSR department.
- To monitor and maintain a safe work environment.
- Help train others when new employees are hired.
- Partners with Central Sterile manager in evaluating change in policies and procedures.
- Cleans all forms of scopes by hand and utilizes the medivaor to process clean scopes in a high level disinfection manner.
- Help order supplies to maintain appropriate supply levels, facilitates patient flow and turnover.
- Attend any other duties that are assigned. Help other departments when asked.

Qualifications:
Job Requirements- High school graduate (or equivalent) required.
- Registered central service technician certification and minimum of 6 months experience in central sterile processing.
- Must demonstrate strong work ethic.
- Knowledge of standards as set forth by the IAHCSMM.
- Superb interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively.
- Must be in central for at least 2 years.
