Overview:

The Interventional Radiology (IVR) Technologist operates advanced radiological imaging equipment in support of the interventional cardiologist/radiologist while performing diagnostic and complex interventional procedures on a routine and emergent basis.

Assists in preparing the patient and procedure room in order to preserve a sterile environment. Ensures the radiation dose is documented in the patient chart and following as low as reasonable achievable (ALARA) principles.

Responsibilities:

  • Accurately performs interventional radiology exams that adheres to department standards including technique, positioning, and the safe administration of contrast material.
  • Records, stores, retrieves, analyzes imaging data obtained during interventional radiology procedures. Assures quality images are presented to the physician for interpretation.
  • Possesses knowledge of an extensive interventional radiology inventory of supplies.
  • Provides patient education about the interventional procedure.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of procedural requirements for performing interventional procedures which include radial-to peripheral lower limb salvage, IVC filters, balloon angioplasty, biopsies, atherectomy, embolization, kyphoplasty, venous access, and radio-embolization.
  • Demonstrates the ability to safely and successfully remove multiple sheath types post procedure and achieve homeostasis.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of sterile technique and the ability to preserve at the femoral, pedal, axillary, and brachial access points.
  • Assists with the operation of the following interventional equipment: Angiojet, CSI, Turbohawk, and Penumbra.
  • Demonstrates strong critical thinking skills and judgment. Anticipates a change in status of the patient related to a procedural event and provides assistance as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and ability to assist with performing procedures in various venues: interventional radiology, interventional cardiology, EP, OR, and bedside.
  • All other duties as assigned by department

Qualifications:

Education / Training
  • Associate's Degree Radiology
Additional Information:

Completion of formal Radiologic Technology training in an AMA approved school for degree, or diploma by which the graduate would qualify as a Registered Radiologic Technologist.

Experience Requirements
  • 0-1 year IVR Technology/Radiology

Preferences: 1 year experience preferred within the past three (3) years in a comparable job classification.

Licensing Requirements
  • Licensed Radiologic Technologist in Florida
  • American Registry of Radiological Technologist ARRT (R)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)

Preferences:

American Registry of Radiological Technologist (ARRT)- VI preferred.

Additional Information: BLS, provided by American Heart Association (AHA), required within 30 days of hire.
