About the Role:Join our team as a Veteran Services Coordinator and make a meaningful impact in the lives of service members, veterans, and their families. In this role, you will provide critical resources, consultation, and assistance to deliver essential services, including suicide prevention, substance abuse support, homelessness prevention, and crisis intervention.
This is an opportunity to work collaboratively with federal, state, and local agencies to ensure veterans receive the care and support they deserve.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct in-depth intakes to assess veterans' physical abilities, service history, mental health, exposure to trauma, and other pertinent information.
- Assist veterans in developing Individual Recovery Plans (IRPs) and setting achievable goals based on intake assessments.
- Connect veterans with service providers by facilitating face-to-face meetings or accompanying them to appointments.
- Provide EOVS-related trainings to veterans and community organizations.
- Represent the SAVE and/or SERVE Team at Continuum of Care meetings, task forces, and public forums.
- Advocate for veterans' rights and benefits with community providers, federal/state agencies, courts, employers, and landlords.
- Attend case management meetings, training sessions, and professional development courses to stay informed on veterans' issues.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with service providers to ensure seamless support for veterans.
- Recommend enhancements to policies, procedures, and systems to improve service delivery.
- Address inquiries from providers, the public, and EOVS staff regarding veteran services.
- Collaborate with local municipal Veteran Service Officers to support their mission.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervision.
Qualifications Required at Hire:
- Ability to follow protocols and procedures with precision.
- Strong organizational skills to manage active case loads, outreach schedules, and administrative tasks.
- Proven ability to meet deadlines, prioritize tasks, and work independently.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to express ideas clearly and professionally.
- Sound judgment and the ability to handle sensitive situations with empathy and discretion.
- Comfort discussing suicide and working with veterans experiencing PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) or TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury).
- Familiarity with military culture and its implications in service delivery.
- Ability to coordinate services with private, federal, and state agencies.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
- Comfort speaking publicly about programs and services for veterans.
- Willingness to attend publicity events outside normal working hours and assume on-call responsibilities.
- Experience working with veteran treatment courts and diversion programs is a plus.
Qualifications Acquired on the Job:
- Enhanced knowledge of veteran issues and available services in Massachusetts.
- Understanding of federal programs and policies related to veterans.
Minimum Entrance Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license.
