New Destiny is a leader in developing best practices to promote housing access and stability to survivors of domestic violence in New York City through its Housing Access and Stability Services (HASS) department. This department is funded primarily through HUD Continuum of Care (CoC) rapid-rehousing contracts.
In addition to services provided to HASS’ own participants, New Destiny has leveraged its expertise to ensure advocates and survivors across NYC have the knowledge and tools needed to navigate housing options independently.
The Training & Technical Assistance Manager role is a new position within the department. The selected candidate will have a wide range of knowledge on housing resources available to survivors of domestic violence. This role will deliver training to survivors, providers, advocates, and other partners, and provide direct technical assistance to survivors.
Duties and Responsibilities- Regularly create and update external-facing resources to help survivors independently navigate housing systems and conduct their housing search.
- Develop and conduct training workshops for advocates working with survivors of domestic violence in NYC Family Justice Centers and with external partners.
- Provide technical assistance to advocates helping survivors of domestic violence navigate housing systems.
- Respond quickly and appropriately to survivors seeking information on subsidies and housing resources, including phone and email inquiries from survivors and advocates, and occasional in-person inquiries.
- Update content based on changes to eligibility criteria and benefits of various housing resources available to survivors of domestic violence including permanent supportive housing, rapid-rehousing, voucher subsidies, affordable housing, public housing, etc.
- In partnership with Advocacy & Communications team, develop content related to housing resources for survivors of domestic violence in NYC, including for website and social media.
- Participate in New Destiny’s internal advocacy meetings and communicate information to the advocacy department as needed on challenges on the ground that may need a policy solution.
- Provide auxiliary support to housing access and stability services staff as needed, under supervisor’s direction, and in collaboration with department supervisors.
- Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, public policy/administration or a related field is preferred but not required.
- 3-5 years' experience in housing and/or social services, preferably working with populations experiencing domestic violence and/or homelessness.
- Experience with virtual and in-person training facilitation and strong public speaking skills
- Must be able to demonstrate strong knowledge of city, state and federal affordable housing resources.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications (Word, Excel, OneDrive, SharePoint, etc.)
- Professional proficiency (written and verbal) in English and Spanish preferred
