Assistant Controller

We are in the Higher Education sector, situated in Tarrytown, New York, and are currently on the lookout for an Assistant Controller to join our team. In this role, you will be expected to supervise daily financial operations, manage student accounts, and oversee payroll functions.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and manage the daily operations of cash functions, including the maintenance of wire files.
  • Act as a liaison to the Student Accounts Department, overseeing general ledger activities and ensuring timely reconciliation of all accounts.
  • Oversee the preparation of allowances for doubtful accounts and project the bad debt expense for the fiscal year.
  • Supervise the Finance Grants Function, including the review of financial reports.
  • Handle oversight of all Payroll Department functions to ensure a consistent workflow and accurate reporting.
  • Provide support to the College Retirement Plan Administrator by coordinating the external audit and filings.
  • Supervise accounting activities for all Federal and Private Loan Programs.
  • Assist in maintaining the Mercy Financial Policy and finance staff desk references.
  • Coordinate the review and remittance of Abandoned Property to the State of New York.
  • Develop and implement initiatives to engage the department in the College community and build positive morale.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings and provide regular training to staff.
  • Supervise the preparation of audit and monthly schedules, analyses and reconciliations.
  • Supervise testing and system upgrades for areas overseen.
  • Review and approve all journal entries for areas supervised.
  • Manage time and other resources to meet established short and long term goals.
  • Proficiency in Accounting Software Systems is a must for this role.
  • Familiarity with ADP - Financial Services is necessary for effective job performance.
  • The candidate must have experience using Concur for expense management.
  • Knowledge of Crystal Reports is essential for generating and managing reports.
  • Understanding of DCAA compliance and regulations is required for this job.
  • The Assistant Controller should be able to handle all major Accounting Functions.
  • The role demands expertise in managing Accounts Payable (AP) and ensuring timely payments.
  • The candidate should have experience in managing Accounts Receivable (AR) and ensuring timely collection.
  • A strong background in Auditing is required to ensure compliance and accuracy in financial operations.
  • Experience in Billing Functions is necessary for managing invoicing and payment processes.
