The NCI-designated Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (CFCCC) is a campus-wide multidisciplinary matrix organization whose goal is to promote and enhance cancer-relevant research and patient care at UC Irvine. The CFCCC provides research resources to its ~150 members engaged in research and offers multidisciplinary cancer care to its patients.

The Anti-Cancer Challenge was established as an annual fundraising challenge for people of all ages and abilities. 100% of the proceeds are used to fund cancer research at the UCI Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. This annual event raises funds toward making a significant contribution to the research discovery continuum and continues to foster positive community awareness of the CFCCC.

The inaugural Anti-Cancer Challenge was held in 2017.

Responsibilities:

Under the general direction of the Executive Director of Development, Cancer Programs & UCI Health Systems, the Associate Director of Development, Anti-Cancer Challenge (ADoD, ACC) is a fundraising professional who works collaboratively with the Executive Director of Development and University Advancement colleagues to secure philanthropic support for the Anti-Cancer Challenge.
The ADoD, ACC will also take the primary role in implementing the overall organizational strategy of this peer-to-peer annual fundraising event. The scope of responsibilities includes: development of key corporate sponsorships and beneficiary relationships, recruitment strategies for participants, collaboration of initial marketing plan, management of staff and interns and management of key partnerships.

The ADoD, ACC reports to, and is directly responsible to, the Executive Director for all matters pertaining to the planning, execution and corresponding administrative responsibilities for the annual event. The principal role of the ADoD, ACC is to successfully organize and execute the annual event while achieving budgeted fundraising goals of $1million+.

The ADoD, ACC manages the event planning, budget development and administration and will be responsible for all ongoing tracking of outcomes and changes toward improved efficiencies and improvement whenever possible and/or necessary.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $$85,400- $$90,000 (Annual).

Required:

  • Thorough working knowledge of fundraising, donor relations, and public relations concepts, principles, procedures, and techniques.
  • Thorough working knowledge of the location, its vision, mission, goals, objectives, achievements and infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, etc.
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills to establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the organization and with outside constituencies.
  • Strong organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills, including skills in creative and effective decision-making and problem identification / avoidance / resolution, and project management skills.
  • Strong skills in maintaining confidentiality.
  • Understanding of academic, research and education functions and operating principals of a major research university
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • A minimum of three years of successful fundraising in a complex development program, preferably in a peer-to-peer fundraising event format in a health-related field.
  • Successful experience working with volunteers leaders and university administrators to ensure an integrated, organized effort

Preferred:

  • Working knowledge of Salesforce or comparable a donor/prospect database system

Special Conditions:

  • May work occasional evenings and weekends
  • May be required to drive on occasion in order to perform the routine or essential job responsibilities for the position
