Operates a wide variety of complex technical equipment for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes in the Pulmonary Physiology Laboratory. Continuously monitors patient and response and makes appropriate suggestions to the treatment plan in consult with the interns, residents, attending physicians and pulmonary physiologist.

Responsibilities:

  • 1. The Senior Respiratory Therapist responsible for the performance of a wide range of complex procedures that frequently involve highly specialized equipment. This testing includes pediatric and adult populations in the in-patient and out-patient setting, These procedures include pulmonary function testing, medical gas administration, nebulizer therapy, collecting quality assurance data, providing education on pulmonary medication usage and ordering supplies for the department. Support pulmonary clinic in offsite locations.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION

Two years of college A.S. degree in Respiratory Therapy, CoARC approved college, B.S. preferred

EXPERIENCE

One year in-hospital clinical practice experience. One year in a pulmonary function lab or one year performing pulmonary function testing.

LICENSURE

CPFT or RPFT required or within six months of hire. BLS ad PALS required. CT RRT License required.

These procedures include pulmonary function testing, providing education, nebulizer therapy, obtaining blood and various laboratory samples, administration of medical gases.

PHYSICAL DEMAND

Exposure to respiratory and other pathogens including drug resistant strains of tuberculosis and A. Staph, HIV, and hepatitis B. Exposure to blood and body fluids. Exposure to pentamidine, ribovirin, radiation and other potentially harmful substances listed in the MSDS.
