Position Summary:
A Software Test Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and executing comprehensive test plans to validate the functionality and reliability of embedded systems, working closely with hardware and software engineers to identify and troubleshoot defects within the system, ensuring it meets quality standards and operates as intended across various conditions; requiring a strong understanding of both hardware and software principles, as well as experience with embedded testing methodologies and tools.
What you will do as a Software Test Engineer:
- Test plan development: Create detailed test plans outlining test cases, scenarios, and expected results based on Software/sub-system/system requirements and specifications.
- Test case design and execution: Develop and execute functional, performance, stress, regression, and boundary value tests on embedded systems.
- Hardware/software integration testing: Verify the seamless interaction between embedded hardware and software components during software development and software verification.
- Defect logging and tracking: Identify and report software/hardware defects, prioritize issues, and track them through the bug resolution process.
- Automation testing: Develop and implement automated test scripts to improve test efficiency and regression testing cycles.
- Test environment setup: Configure and maintain test environments, including necessary hardware and software tools.
- Root cause analysis: Debug identified issues, analyze failure patterns, and collaborate with development teams to resolve defects.
- Performance analysis: Monitor system performance metrics and identify potential bottlenecks.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed test reports, documenting test results, findings, and recommendations.
The Experience, Skills and Abilities Needed:
Required:
- Bachelor's in computer engineering, Computer Science, or Software Engineering. (A degree in another Engineering discipline may be acceptable with proven software education and/or training and demonstrated software experience.)
- Requires minimum 3 years of progressive engineering experience in the development and verification of software and firmware systems. MUST have experience testing embedded software applications.
Preferred:
- Medical device industry experience.
- Standards IEC 62304, ISO 14971 knowledge is highly preferred.
Skills:
- Programming languages like C/C++, Assembly language, or scripting languages like Python, Perl
- Understanding of embedded systems architecture and components
- Familiarity with real-time operating systems (RTOS)
- Knowledge of hardware interfaces (e.g., RS232, SPI, I2C, UART)
- Experience with test automation frameworks (e.g., pytest, Junit)
- Proficiency with debugging tools and methodologies
- Strong understanding of testing methodologies (black-box, white-box, regression and reliability testing)
- Experience with test case design techniques
- Ability to analyze test results and identify root causes
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams
- Attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines.
