The Opportunity:

The Memphis Grizzlies Foundation exists to foster conditions that lead to accelerated student achievement, ensuring that the rising generation is equipped with the skills needed to compete in the current and future economies. To that end, our mission is to find, fund, create, and connect best in class youth mentoring/development programs in the Mid-South region.

MENTOR Memphis Grizzlies (MMG) serves as a clearinghouse for training, resources, awareness, and advocacy, providing the critical link between MENTOR’s national efforts and local organizations and programs that foster and support quality mentoring relationships.
The intern will build MMG’s capacities to collect and analyze network level data, support youth mentoring programs in implementing research-based best practices known as the Elements of Effective Practice in Mentoring, and incorporate data into organizational decision making.

They will assess and improve MMG data collection systems to ensure data collection is responsive to the needs of all stakeholders serving our youth living in low-income households.

The ideal candidate should have a passion for all things data, a willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment, and a collaborative mindset in working with others and for the benefit of the Memphis community.

In This Role You Will:

Data Analytics and Visualization
  • Analyze program-level data and evaluate the impact of the MMG affiliate network, generating recommendations on processes and data collection improvement;
  • Review MMG Affiliate Recertification Survey & Grant reports and survey responses, ensuring a 75% completion rate;
  • Review MMG Affiliate FY25 Mid-Year Assessment & Recruitment Survey responses and recruitment survey, ensuring completion of Mid-Year Assessment for all Foundation Funded Partners;
  • Clean and format collected data as needed to ensure accuracy. identifying patterns in data that may indicate program effectiveness or areas for growth;
  • Convey findings to leadership and other relevant stakeholders, summarizing relevant data and conclusions in a report suitable for a non-technical audience, which includes visual storytelling;
  • Create materials to present findings to board members and other relevant stakeholders;
  • Coordinate launch and transfer of data to MMG’s new data management software, providing feedback on challenges in data transfer and determining which data points to track across programs;
  • Identify key data points and establish report templates for impact measurement and tracking for MMG;
Recruitment
  • Plan recruitment events and coordinate with TEAM Mentor Coordinator regarding the recruitment calendar;
  • Coordinate with the site host/vendor;
  • Post-event follow-up to potential mentors;
  • Handle mentor referrals out to programs;
  • Respond to volunteer inquiries in Volunteer Odyssey using the General Mentor Interest Form;
  • Manage referral partner program applications on trimester basis;
Training Support
  • Create New Mentor Training events in Volunteer Odyssey;
  • Post-event follow-up;
  • Co-facilitate trainings for mentors and mentoring program staff;
TEAMmates
  • Build list of TEAMmates providers by proactively connecting with businesses;
  • Develop creative ways to engage our TEAMmates businesses throughout the year;
  • Other duties as necessary.

The Experience You Will Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Business, Sports Leadership, or a related field.
  • 6 months’ experience in social responsibility/community relations, philanthropy, community development, and nonprofit support
  • Previous internship or project-related experience in analytics, community relations or non-profit research, strategy, business intelligence, or related fields.
  • Ability to be vison and mission-driven.
  • Must be a team player who develops and sustains relationships, is dependable, and highly collaborative.
  • Strong communication skills with leaders, analysts, and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational, strategic, and analytical skills.
  • High level of integrity and emotional intelligence.
  • Knowledge of issues related to youth development, youth mentoring, or community development.
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office, and the ability to continually learn new technology.
  • Must be willing and able to work nights, holidays, and weekends as required.
  • Current Driver’s License and reliable transportation.

Nice to Have:

  • Knowledge of sports and entertainment, specifically NBA basketball.
  • Any work, internship or project-based experience in the professional sports and entertainment industry.
