Lab Automation Specialist
Location: West Point, PA 19486Duration: 12 months
Job Description:
- Work collaboratively with laboratory scientists and automation lab specialists to connect instruments and systems, developing scripts, applications, and data infrastructure as needed, with a focus on lab instrumentation integrations.
- Effectively manage small projects from conception through completion involving a variety of stakeholders.
- Collaborate with the Workflow and Data Capture (WDC) team to prioritize projects with the highest value and help shape the group's strategy.
- Serve as the first line of defense for troubleshooting and error recovery.
- Support the Workflow and Data Capture (WDC) team within Pharmacokinetics, Drug Metabolism, and Bioanalysis (PDMB) in optimizing data collection and automation workflows at a cutting-edge automated incubation lab in West Point, PA.
- Streamline workflows to improve automation and scientific data capture, providing the foundation for translational modeling, AI/ML, and decision-making platforms aimed at developing innovative medicines.
- Participate in the development, operational standup, and optimization of automation labs.
- Develop and deliver connectivity solutions for data streams, laboratory instrumentation, robots, and data storage solutions, working closely with scientists and IT partners.
- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, including research functions and IT colleagues, to understand workflow and data capture needs and implement innovative solutions.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Life Sciences, or equivalent with 2-3 years of relevant experience.
Required Experience and Skills:
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and in an entrepreneurial manner.
- Strong team collaboration and communication skills.
- Experience in software development or working with lab data capture systems or automation.
- Proficiency in scripting/programming languages such as Python, C#, R, Spotfire, PowerBI, VBScript, SQL.
- Familiarity with common data structures and database queries like SQL and Oracle.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
- Knowledge of software and script development, including unit testing and script integration into existing architecture.
- Experience with lab automation scheduling software (e.g., Green Button Go, Momentum, Cellario).
- Proficiency in additional programming languages such as JavaScript, R, and R-shiny.
- Experience with web-based application and database development.
- Familiarity with visualization tools like Spotfire and PowerBI.
- Hands-on experience with lab equipment automation and data flow integration.
- Knowledge of cloud-based architecture (e.g., AWS).
